MOZUS: giant art! Every
Friday from August 21 to October 17 2008, from noon to 7pm at the Parc
de la Paix (on St-Laurent between Ste-Catherine and René-Lévesque)
Montrealers and tourists visiting the city are invited to enjoy art
by playing with it:
In
partnership with Dada
Diffusion Art Actuel, the MAM Fine Crafts Collective presents
MOZUS, the giant bilingual
crossword game created using fine crafts techniques, played on an in-situ
stencil-painted board. MOZUS
goes beyond traditional public art by inviting the active participation
of its "spect-actors". The work brings art closer to the public
in a dynamic and vivacious way, encouraging interaction with the artwork
as well as creativity through it. The interactivity implicit in this
game (which is played on a 5 metre grid) allows for a convivial and
whimsical collaboration with the public, all the while opening the possibilities
as to the interpretation of artwork and reactions one might expect to
have towards public art.
The
letter-tiles, easels and tile-box are all created using fine crafts
techniques (textile printing, woodworking, and ceramic mosaics) by MAM
artsts Marianne Chevalier, Geneviève Juillet, Alicia Legault
Verdier, Maggie D. Lépine, Éloïse Marchand-Duschesneau,
Janelle Mellamphy and Julie-Soleil Nadeau. Artist Marie Sylvestre stencil-painted
the Parc de la Paix's in-situ game grid, creating a bestiary
inspired by popular tales, fables and stories. France Parenteau, president
and director general of the non-profit Dada Diffusion Art Actuel, developed
the game's rules and served as general organisor.
An
artful, outdoor deilght; sweet MOZUS
it's fun!
