MAM — the
Métiers d'Art Métissés ("mixed fine
crafts") — is a collective of young fine crafts artists:
our mission is the promotion of fine crafts, the organization of related
exhibits, and the creation of multi-media collective works in ceramics,
textile design, textile printing, woodwork, jewellery-making, guitar-making,
leatherwork and glass.
Fine crafts are
artistic disciplines that use materials (wood, clay, glass, fibre, leather,
etc.) to create functional or sculptural work. The craftsperson is both
creator and maker: the mastery of material and of the techniques related
to that material are essential to the craftsperson's training; creative
research allows for the personalization of a piece, lending a unique
cachet to fine craftwork.
Active
since 2002, MAM started out as a group of fine crafts students and recent
graduates from the Cégep du Vieux-Montréal; MAM became
an independent artists' collective in 2006.
MAM's objectives are to promote work by new fine craft artists, and
to create contacts and resources that encourage close associations and
a potential combination of techniques. For more information, please
send us
an email or leave us a voice mail at 514-333-CMAM (514-333-2626).
